Quick: how do you get a group of teenage students to not mentally check out after a test during the last week of school before the holiday?

And a followup question: how do I prevent myself from not to mentally check out? I have succeeded so far, but as my flight to Vancouver is coming up on the 24th (yup, Christmas eve), and I have yet to wrap presents and pack my suitcase. Trying to mark 7 different tests and still be present in the classroom is taking up the majority of my time.

Christmas Light Cupcakes
Yield: 18 cupcakes

Ingredients

Cupcakes
  •     1 box milk chocolate cake mix
  •     3/4 cup vegetable oil
  •     3 eggs
  •     1 small box chocolate instant pudding mix
  •     2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  •     3/4 cup sour cream
  •     1/2 cup water
To decorate:
  •     store-bought black frosting
  •     Vanilla Buttercream
  •     M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Line two muffin tins with 18 paper liners.
  2. Add cupcake ingredients to the bowl of an electric mixer. Beat well, about 3 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally.
  3. Divide batter evenly between muffin tin. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  4. Using a large round tip, pipe buttercream in a swirl onto the cupcakes. Draw a black line around the surface of the frosting. Stick M&Ms vertically into the side of the cupcakes.
