A few years ago, I saw a video on how to make a Christmas tree puff pastry appetizer that looked so incredibly beautiful I knew I had to try it. As a matter of fact, there were actually two videos, one using pesto sauce and the other using Nutella.
The recipe I’m sharing with you today is made with pesto sauce. It turned out even better than I could have imagined. I made it for Christmas Day as part of our appetizers and then I made it again for New Year’s Eve.
Easy Holiday Appetizer
Don’t be afraid to try this recipe! It is actually very easy. I know sometimes when I look at recipes and see a ton of steps I quickly move on, but this recipe is very simple and the presentation it makes is amazing.
Your family and friends are going to be so impressed with you when you place this Christmas tree appetizer on your buffet table over the holiday season…really!

Christmas Tree Puff Pastry Appetizer with Pesto Sauce
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 18 minutes
Total Time 23 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- 1/2 cup parmesan
- 1/3 cup pesto
- Egg wash
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut 1 sheet of puff pastry into the shape of a Christmas tree (triangle with a small rectangle at the bottom for the trunk). Spread pesto and parmesan over the puff pastry before placing the second sheet of puff pastry on top. Cut the excess puff pastry off so it is the exact same shape as the other other sheet of puff pastry.
- Cut slits horizontally on the puff pastries, leaving about 1/2" in the middle uncut. Make these slits about every 1/2". Twist each strip twice.
- Place on sheet pan and brush pastry with egg wash. Place in oven and bake for 20 minutes.
